Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is a compact but incredibly diverse destination covering 330 square kilometers along the Great Rift Valley. Despite its small size, the park packs an extraordinary variety of ecosystems—from underground forests to alkaline lake shores—supporting remarkable biodiversity.

Made famous by Ernest Hemingway who described it as 'the loveliest I had seen in Africa', the park is renowned for its tree-climbing lions (though sightings are rare), large flocks of pink flamingos that color the lake shore, and over 400 bird species. The groundwater forest, fed by underground springs, creates a lush green canopy home to baboons, blue monkeys, and numerous bird species.

Perfect as a day trip or overnight stop, Lake Manyara offers excellent value and diversity, making it an ideal introduction to Tanzanian safaris or a pleasant break between Arusha and the northern circuit parks.
