Overview
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa's most spectacular natural wonders. Formed 2-3 million years ago when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed on itself, this UNESCO World Heritage Site creates a natural enclosure spanning 260 square kilometers.
Often called 'Africa's Eden' or 'The Eighth Wonder of the World', the crater floor sits 600 meters below the rim and supports an incredible density of wildlife. With over 25,000 large animals including the endangered black rhino, the Ngorongoro Crater offers some of the best game viewing in Africa, all within a single day's drive.
Beyond the crater, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area encompasses diverse landscapes from highland forests to grassy plains, and is home to the Maasai people who continue their traditional pastoral lifestyle alongside wildlife.
